Background
SOULWAT, the first research institute-led Food & Beverage brand under HONMAR, is an enterprise of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The scientific research team of SOULWAT is committed to researching hemp, a natural extract popular among youths in recent years. The team extracts the research-proven benefits, such as relaxing anxiety and fighting skin isues and integrates them into dietary and skincare products with global qualified standards offered at competitive prices. SOULWAT hopes to promote young people’s health with an unorthodox way of enjoying life.
Design Solution
VINCDESIGN designed the product packaging for SOULWAT’s functional beverages, Strawberry Rooibos Vegan Soda and Lime Mint Vegan Soda. The design aims at the young generation for their open-mindedness and curiosity for new things. Considering that they often seek ways to relieve stress, these two drinks are specially named after positive emotions, namely Soul Happy and Soul Zappy. It hopes to emphasise the idea that SOULWAT’s functional drinks replenish positive energy for consumers.
The design of the can further accentuates this theme. The irregular ripples in the background are inspired by brainwaves, symbolising the positive mood change after enjoying the drink. Also, the visual centre of the can is occupied by patterns of cannabis appearing in different forms, constituting a unique visual identity system for SOULWAT, effectively enhancing its brand recognition.
In terms of font design and colour selection, the distinctive font and the silver can body highlight the sense of innovative technology, emphasising the scientific research team that supports SOULWAT. The contrast between the silver can and the ripples in brilliant colours not only arouses consumers’ curiosity about these functional beverages, but the rich visual presentation also connects taste with mood, further recharging consumers with GOOD VIBES.
