Brand Story:
The Awakening of Renaissance

About Wake Concept Hotel
Located in the heart of Yau Ma Tei, Wake Concept Hotel is a boutique sanctuary where innovation meets heritage. Designed by the world-renowned HBA, it serves as a vibrant community hub for discerning travelers seeking an authentic immersion into Hong Kong’s local culture. Beyond a place to stay, Wake offers a customizable experience, featuring cutting-edge technologies curated from global Kickstarter campaigns. Here, every guest is invited to explore unique neighborhood experiences and embrace a seamless fusion of fashion, comfort, and imaginative design.

Discovery|Project Discovery & Brand Insight
The branding design project began with a search for a profound narrative of rebirth within an urban context. The name “Wake” (華爾) was chosen to embody the concept of an instant—an awakening moment. We identified that the global trend in hospitality is shifting from passive luxury to curated, intellectual experiences. The Yau Ma Tei location presented a strategic paradox: a historic, gritty, and culturally rich neighborhood set against a brand promise of high innovation. The insight was clear—the brand needed to become a conduit for this contrast, much like the Renaissance period itself, which was a significant “awakening moment” in human history that fostered Great rebirth in art, intellect, and technology.

Strategy|Design Strategy & Creative Narrative
The design strategy centers on “Dynamic Renaissance.” We positioned Wake not just as a hotel brand, but as an agent of personal and cultural awakening. The creative narrative draws a direct parallel between the 14th-to-17th-century European Renaissance and the modern urban experience. Just as that historical era renewed interest in classical knowledge while advancing new technologies, Wake offers a unique experience where modern technology and aesthetics converge. The strategy aims to inspire and stimulate guests’ senses, offering them an opportunity to experience their own personal renaissance, where they can appreciate the seamless fusion of technology and art while immersed in a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

Identity|Visual Identity & Aesthetic Craftsmanship
The visual identity is a masterclass in philosophical design. The logo is inspired by the definitive “awakening moment” in art history: the powerful scene from Michelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam,” where God extends His hand to Adam. This moment represents the Creator breathing inspiration and innovation into the created. The “WAKE” logotype (华尔) is crafted in a modern, innovative font style that reflects a fusion of old and new. The negative space between the “W” and “A” evolves into a visual representation of that very touch—the precise instant of “Awakening Experience.” A sophisticated black and white color palette is utilized to convey innovation and premium luxury, with black symbolizing infinite possibility.

Rollout|Implementation & Brand Experience
The implementation phase focuses on deeply linking the brand to its community through kinetic design. The negative space within the “WA” element is designed as a dynamic window, extending and transforming to incorporate various iconic Hong Kong cultural landmarks, locally curated artworks, and artisan showcases. This visual strategy illustrates Wake’s commitment to collaborating with different local cultural industries to create a completely new, integrated hotel experience. Whether it is a glimpse of Temple Street through the “WAKE” logo or an AI-curated art piece, every touchpoint amplifies the Renaissance concept, leading guests into a new world where every moment becomes their own moment of awakening.
