Regent Hong Kong, positioned majestically on the edge of Kowloon’s waterfront, stands as a masterclass in discreet luxury and serene sophistication. The brand’s core DNA lies in the “Beauty of Contrasts”—a seamless fusion of East-meets-West culture, traditional grace, and contemporary design. For this seasonal premium packaging collection, the objective was to transcend traditional festive tropes and create an iconic, poetic keepsake that channels Regent’s bespoke architectural spirit and unparalleled views.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is fundamentally a celebration of light, reflection, and emotional reunion. In seeking a profound narrative for the property, the focus shifted outward to its most definitive asset: Victoria Harbour.
The creative insight was born from a moment of poetic stillness—watching traditional lanterns float across the shimmering, deep-teal waters of the harbor under the glow of a harvest moon. Through intentional and elevated branding, this bespoke packaging design project transforms standard festive collateral into a spatial conduit, bringing the magical, moonlit experience of Regent’s harbor views directly into the hands of global guests.
Strategy | Design Strategy & Creative Narrative
The design strategy centers on “The Cinematic Framing of Tradition.” The goal was to capture the exact sensation of stepping through Regent’s serene, world-class interiors and looking out onto the vibrant Hong Kong night sky.
The creative narrative bridges time and culture through an Old-meets-New Fusion. By taking the raw nostalgia of traditional mid-autumn lanterns and reinterpreting them through sleek, minimalist geometric lines, the design honors heritage while speaking directly to a modern, intellectually discerning audience. The strategy relies on sensory storytelling, ensuring the premium packaging functions as both an aesthetic triumph and a powerful brand ambassador.
Identity | Visual Identity & Aesthetic Craftsmanship
The visual and structural execution of the packaging is a masterclass in tactile luxury and cultural narrative:
Architectural Silhouette: The outer box utilizes a majestic, custom-engineered octagonal Chinese form factor. It acts as a structural homage to traditional Chinese architecture, reimagined with clean, sharp modern lines.
The Ritual of Unboxing: The opening sequence is designed as a deliberate, theatrical experience. As the octagonal panels fold outward, it mirrors the sensation of opening a grand Chinese window at Regent, stepping out to witness mid-autumn lanterns gracefully floating over the undulating waves of Victoria Harbour.
Geometric Lanterns: Moving away from literal illustrations, the design features stylized, geometric interpretations of varied lantern shapes. This abstraction lends an avant-garde, Art Deco-inspired sophistication to the festive motif.
Master Craftsmanship & Tactility: Set against a rich, multi-tonal teal and deep-emerald canvas that represents the harbor at night, the graphics are executed using metallic gold hot stamping paired with intense 3D embossing. The raised, glittering textures catch the light dynamically from every angle, beautifully mimicking the shimmering reflections of the moon dancing on the sea.
Internal Discovery: Upon opening the window, four meticulously designed inner boxes are revealed—housing curated flavors (Egg Lava Custard, Red Bean Paste, White Lotus, Winter Citrus). Each box features a distinct geometric lantern silhouette playing in harmony with a minimalist full moon.

The launch of the Regent Mooncake packaging collection achieved exceptional market resonance by transforming luxury presentation into a shareable, cultural event:
Social Media Sensation: The kinetic, unfolding nature of the octagonal box made it an instant viral sensation. Its architectural unboxing process was widely captured and shared across premium lifestyle feeds on Instagram and Xiaohongshu (RED), driving massive organic amplification.
Commercial Triumph: By perfectly balancing Regent’s contemporary aesthetic with a deeply poetic cultural narrative, the project became an object of desire. It successfully disrupted the highly competitive luxury market, resulting in a complete sell-out and cementing Regent’s position as an innovator in cultural hospitality design.
